USB wont recognized WD Passport 80gb

So I just finished building my new setup and one of the only issues I have left to work out concerns one of my portable HDD's. I have a WD Passport that I keep music and Firefox profiles on to cart back and forth to the office. I cannot get Vista to recognize it on my home computer. After plugging it in Vista installs the drivers but then starts looking for preconfigured driver folders and never shows up under my computer. I have a Buffalo 500GB external as my backup that works fine in the same port. I have never had a prob with the WD and have used it on multiple computers (XP Pro, XP MCE, and Vista Prem.). Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

You could try letting Vista update the device's driver from device manager. And, you could try installing any missing Vista reliability updates. Those related to USB might solve your problem.

Why are you trying to install two different hard drives on the same USB port? That right there can cause issues, since Windows is expecting one drive and you're giving it another.

Well, I'm not sure what exactly the problem was. I formated the drive and used a shorter cord (never had problems with a longer cord but may have something to do with the PSU in the new rig) Thanks for the help. BTW KOC, is there something different I should be doing when swapping out USB drives on the same port. (currently I have 2 flash sticks and the passport all plugged into a powered external hub and everything seems to be working fine).
