Kill process does nothing in Vista

What I've found with Vista is that a 'kill process' only works if the application will behave itself and shut down.

When a program has gone out into outter space and hung, but doesn't report that it's hung Vista won't terminate the process. It won't shut down, only way out is to KILL the machine (unplug or pwr button for 10sec.)

I'm sure this is more of M$'s wanting to keep users from having any control over their machine.

Is there any way to override this? Or do I need to keep hitting the power button every time a program missbehaves?

(right now it's intel's wifi installer that's running amuck and can't complete it's install.)

Re: Kill process does nothing in Vista

Hi MonsterMaxx,

If you get a application that will not End Process in Task Manager, you might try seeing if pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and log off and log on again will work. This will kill the application without having to do a hard restart or hopefully a normal restart.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Also, I've discovered that the "End Task" button on the Applications tab of Task Manager doesn't always respond immediately with the desired results. When this happens, I go to the "Processes" tab, find the offending Image Name and use "End Process". That one normally works instantly.
