Need Help transferring files XP to Vista

My home PC (XP Version)recently died (motherboard issue) so i pulled the hard drive and out it into an external Hard Drive enclosure and want to put it on to my laptop. When I access the drive I can see the folders but can not open the files or transfer them due to permission levels. Can anyone talk me through this? Thanks

Hi Aibito069,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

See if taking ownership of the files first will allow you to to access them again to copy them over afterwards. Since you will probably be doing alot of them, I would recommend using Method One.

Take Ownership of file
