VISTA & 1440x900 Resolution Problem

Hi to all,

I have bought a Vista x64 approximately one week ago. Actually I had no problem with the WinXP Professional however the Dx10 and the 64-bit issue caught me and here I am with my problems.

I have Samsung 931nwplus monitor and my video card is Palit 9600 GT SONIC. The native resolution of my monitor is 1440x900. On Winxp I had no problems and was able to set the native resolution.

However, after I installed Vista x64 I am not able to select the native resolution. I tried it from nvidia panel (custom resolution) power-strip and so on but I the max resolution I can select is 1280x1024. I have installed the final drivers of nvidia. However, I am not sure I have the latest drivers for my monitor. On the web page it says that the said driver is for vista but not sure if it is also ok for x64?

So is there anybody out there who can help to solve my dramatic problem.

THANKS

For the fun of it, dump the monitor driver. The generic drivers should be able to support the right resolution. I set up someone else's in 1440x900, but we were using an ATI HD 2400 XT. I'm sure the 9600 GT could do it.

If that doesn't work, at least you still have the monitor driver to reinstall it.

That is strange Ramoz,if you've installed the Latest Nvidia Drivers it should support 1440 X 900.
Check your refresh rate and lower it down a bit and see if you can select 1440 X 900 then.

Hi Ramoz,

As FightingScallion says, don't bother with the monitor drivers. They are not like other drivers as their function is only to inform your system about the capabilities of your monitor. It is better not to install a monitor driver because installing an incorrect driver can give you problems like you mentioned. Generally speaking, the higher the resolution the graphics card is required to support, the lower the refresh rate will need to be. As your monitor is an LCD/TFT type, there is no need to set a higher refresh rate than 60Hz, which all monitors should support. Graphics cards should also be capable of supporting this rate at the highest resolution for the card and in 32-bit colour. Also, make sure that your graphics card is not being overclocked, but is running at its default settings. The latest nVidia graphics driver for your card is 174.74 WHQL released on April 1st 2008 (link given below). I can't see why you should be having problems with this, (I have an nVidia 7600GT with 169.25 WHQL 32-bit drivers running at 1440 x 900 @ 60Hz, 32-bit colour), but if you are it could be the drivers. The second link is to nVidia's 'Vista Quality Assurance' page where you can report any bugs you feel you might have. Click on the link 'Report a bug with the NVIDIA graphics driver'. Feedback from people like you and me help companies such as nVidia iron out any problems in their software.

Thank you for your reply Dwarf...
My video card is Palit 9600GT Sonic.
I think it is overclocked from the beginning.
May this be the problem?

I re-installed Winxp and I faced no problems the standart resolution of the monşter (1440x900) worked without a problem.
