Having a lot of trouble deleting 4 files from my recycle bin

I have 4 episodes of a show in my recycle bin - each episode is 1/2 hour long. I try to delete them, but I get a message saying Calculating time remaining and it just keeps showing that and never gives me a time or deletes the items. It says the speed is 0 bytes / sec. Any idea how I can get rid of these files?

Hi Dbagnell,

You might see if you can open the Recycle Bin and delete them one by one instead. If not, then this tutorial may be able to help you.

Hi, Thanks for your response. It didn't work, unfortunately. I can get into the recycle bin but can't delete or restore or move the files. I clicked empty recycle bin last night, left the computer on for the entire night, and this morning it still wasn't deleted. The total size of the files is 800 MB. I've also deleted the bin, restarted the computer, and added it again using preferences. The files remain. Any other suggestions?

Did you delete the Recycle Bin using the method in the tutorial link above?

They may be actually gone, but still displaying inside the Recycle Bin due to a refreshing issue from a corrupted Recycle Bin.

Okay, looking at the tutorial again, I guess I didn't do it right. I don't see a file or folder called $recycle.bin on my computer. I even clicked the computer button, hit search, and searched for "recycle" and nothing came up. Any other suggestions???

did you do this bit?

1. Open Folder Options.

A) Dot Show hidden files and folders.
B) Check Hide protected operating system files.

I did, yes. Still nothing.

Hello dbagnel, how about open the recycle bin (as Brink suggested), use "Take Ownership" on each file, and delete from there. Would it work ? Or, use "take ownership" on each file, drag& drop each one out to the desktop, then delete them one at a time, and empty the bin After Each delete.

If you are sure that you do not have the $RECYCLE.BIN file, then restart the computer to see if it will recreate one automatically for you.

If not, then run a sfc /scannow command to see if it can fix this bad system file. You can see how to here if needed.

Thanks, Brink. I ran that scan and it says Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. I'm not able to restore or move the files, and I can't delete them manually. Any other suggestions I could try? Thanks!
