Vista - X Application has stopped working

I run Windows Vista 32 Ultimate and it was running just fine for the last 4 or so months. I installed it around Christmas of 2007. Now, all of a sudden it gives me the error message (shown below) in various programs (Firefox, IE, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Everquest 2, MS Word, MS Excel, etc). It does not happen when I first launch the program, it waits until I am in it good and have something to lose (open unsaved documents).

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I have not installed any new software or added any new hardware. The buzz around the net is that it is caused by an MS Update around 04/09/2008. However, I am not seeing any solutions.

This is really irritating. Does anybody have any ideas on how to solve this?
I ran the SP1 update and it did not solve the problem.

Welcome to Vista Forums.

You might try running a sfc /scannow command to see if it can find and fix any bad system files that may be causing this. You can see how to in this tutorial if needed.

If that did not help, then you can do a System Restore using a restore point dated before this problem started. You can see how to in this tutorial if needed.
