| Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit | disabled power/sleep button in start menu Hi, I've disabled the power/sleep button in the start menu a while ago to prevent my children from shutting down the computer. Now they are older and I want to get them to put the computer to sleep when they are not using it. Unfortunately, I can not remember how I disabled the power button. There are no group policies set and I couldn't find any settings on the registry (as suggested in your tutorials Power Button and Shutdown Options - Start Menu). Here is a screenshot of the situation: https://www.nirvanaware.com/browser/...abledPower.jpg Any ideas how I could enable this again? |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: disabled power/sleep button in start menu Hi Tinschel, Welcome to Vista Fourms. ![]() You might see if this tutorial is what you did. To enable it again, you will just need to delete the ACSettingIndex DWORD in the registry. Removing the Sleep function in the Shutdown menu Hope this is it, Shawn |

| Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit | Re: disabled power/sleep button in start menu Hi Brink! Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately I don't have a key "Power" under either "HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft" or "HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Policies". So there is nothing I can delete. I did notice that there are several different "PowerSettings" keys within my registry but I can't make any sense out of their sub-keys. Any other ideas? Tino |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: disabled power/sleep button in start menu Tino, You might look through the Local Group Policy Editor settings at Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, and Power Management. You may have a setting enabled here that is causing this. Shawn |

| Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit | Re: disabled power/sleep button in start menu Shawn: thanks for you help. After many hours of searching through the group policy editor and switching accounts, it turned out to be the following group policy: Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies / User Rights Assignment / Shut down the system Who is supposed to keep track of all these policies? Thanks again for your help and take care! Tino |
