I would like my machine to create a restore point daily. I am ok until the Actions dialog.
on a daily schedule for me? As y'all are aware it wants me to specify the name of the program I want it to run. I have no idea of the name of the program that creates restore points. And I have no idea where to find the name. I have been using this tutorial but I need the name of the program. Task Scheduler - Create Task Can someone please help me out here? Thank you! You can adjust this schedule to whatever you want to in Task Scheduler. In Task Scheduler: 1. Click View and check Show Hidden Tasks. 2. Expand the folders in the left pane until you see SystemRestore, and click on it. 3. Right click on SR in the middle pane and click Properties. 4. Click on the Triggers tab and click one Daily and click Edit. 5. Change the schedule time to what you want and click OK. 6. Click OK. If you would like to make a shortcut that creates a Restore Point when you click on it to make it easier to do when you want to make one, then this tutorial will show you how. The following shows that the Task has completed successfully. I did know that it is supposed to create a Restore Point daily at 12:00 AM. I actually changed the time it is supposed to run a couple of days ago in an attempt to get it to run as requested. Attachment 3482 A "system protection point" is the same as a Restore Point? According to this it is not actually creating a Restore Point. It is supposed to show up in this list below, is it not? You can see by the dates on both that it is not creating a Restore Point. These "Manual" Points are the ones I have been creating through System Protection in System Properties. At 3:00 AM my machine is on, I am logged on as Admin. and the machine is idle as I am in bed. I just checked "Triggers" and confirmed it is set for 3:00 AM, that is the only Trigger that is listed in that pane. I have already used your Tutorial, thank you! System Restore Point - Shortcut Any ideas ??? Thank you for all your help Shawn. Later Ted Last edited by Bare Foot Kid; 07-26-2008 at 03:36 PM. |

Maybe that will enable it to run as intended. I found the program name listed in "Actions" I saved a snip of it. I'll keep you informed. Is this the correct program name? Thank you! "The task was run successfully" but no evidence of it in System Restore. This machine never did create Points, before the reinstall or after. I know that few bother to keep up with Restore Points, and fewer still even have it enabled. Now that I am beginning to understand computers and how they work I have less need for Restore Points myself. Though it would be nice to have Points created in the "background" so that they will be there if they are ever needed. I just don't understand why it shows creating them in one place and not another. Oh well time to move on. Now that I know that a Clean Install is not as painful as it sounds maybe I won't worry about it. Thank you for all your assistance Shawn. Later Ted |

This way there's less chance of a restore point that you want being deleted when the restore point storage space runs out. Besides all that, a good complete PC backup will beat a system restore any day. ![]() Shawn |

As silly as it sounds I'm kind of using this x86 OEM OS as a guinea pig to "learn" about how computers work. When push comes to shove I'll just migrate to x64 Ultimate like I want to do anyway. This machine is well capable of x64. ECS Nettle2 MCP61 Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 4GB DDR2 Dual - Expandable to 8GB NVIDIA 512MB 9600GT 500GB 7200RPM WD HDD OCZ 700w GameXstream I'll probably put x64 on one of the 150GB 10,000RPM Raptors and use this 500 for storage. Maybe not a super computer but enough for what I want it for. Well enough about that for now. Thank you Shawn. Later Ted Last edited by Bare Foot Kid; 07-26-2008 at 03:47 PM. |
