Problem centering picture on desktop

I want to put one of my own pictures, centered as my desktop wallpaper. I can get the picture there ok, but if I try to set it as centered, all I get is the center of the picture as the wallpaper. If I try to tile the picture I get the top left hand corner of the picture as the wallpaper.
It seems to be tiling or centering the screen on my picture, instead of tiling or centering my picture on the screen!
Has anyone else come across this problem? I would appreciate a solution.

Ah. I knew this would start happening one day. Here's your problem: your picture quality is too good.

Basically, you've got a picture that has a higher resolution than you are displaying. What you probably should do is use the "stretch" function (it's the first option). That'll size the picture appropriately for your screen resolution. The other option you have is to take a picture at a lower resolution.

I hope that helps you a bit. Let me know if you need any more help with this.

Thanks for that - if anyone else has this problem I used that info to solve it: using office photo manager I copied the file (so I could experiment without destroying the original), then resized the picture to about 40% of original and now I have the picture in the middle of my screen with a pretty coloured border around it. Yay!:D

How good is too good? I have taken pictures with resolution greater than 1900 x xxxx and had them centered on my 19" CRT running 1600 X 1200....

But thanks for the advice - if that ever happens to me I'll know what to do....
