Since you did not mention, I'll have to assume 2 things :
1. Your taskbar worked before
2. This problem didn't happen tooooo long ago.( Someone waited over a month before posting a question).
Base on the above 2 assumptions, I'll suggest system restore, choosing the date before this problem arose. You might lose a file or two that you installed after the problem started, but that's a price to pay.

yes my taskbar worked before but it seemed like overnight it stopped working. since i have my computer dual booted with xp and vista i was using xp for awhile and then when i decided to switch back over to vista the taskbar just stopped responding. i mean everything seems to work fine. for example when i open a new program the correct box pops up on the taskbar and also all my background applications by the clock work fine, my avast icon still spins and everything like that. nothing just responds to my mouse.

yeah i figured that problem out.

it was an auto shutdown program i had installed and then when i used it to shut down my computer i guess it wouldn't let it start up right for some reason so i just uninstalled it and everything worked fine after that.
but that problem was with my XP partition and this problem is with vista.

Hello hatehereyes,
Nice to know the problem has disappeared. The reason of my inquiring about wireless mouse is that, XP has no problem accepting wireless mice/keyboards, Vista will give you hard time. You need to install ( if you haven't yet ) an optional update called " other hardware hid non-user input data filter ". This optional is designed specifically for wireless mice/keyboards. If you cannot find it in Windows Update, then install Intellipoint software and you'll find the udate. Go to google search box, enter Intellipoint. You know how to do the rest. ( Check your Update History first, you might have it already installed. )

thanks for the tip but i don't think that applies to me since the only wireless mice that are listed are microsoft's and i'm using a wireless gateway mouse.
