Vista Ultimate 64bit on MSI P7N sli platinum

Hello all,

I am trying to install vista ultimate 64 bit on a brand new pc with a MSI P7N sli platinum board, intel E8500 cpu, 4Gb ocz kit, 8800GT.

Every time the install is done and windows is trying to load, shortly a blue screen appears and the pc restarts.
Updated the bios from 1.0 to 1.1, changed the graphic card, tweaking some bios settings, nothing helped so far.

Vista 32-bit and XP is giving no problems.

Is there something special to do?
Does someone have a golden tip?

Thans in advance,

Franc.

Hi Franc,

Welcome to Vista Forums.
Try installing Vista with just 2GB installed, even if it means temporarily running in single channel mode. People both here on the Forums and elsewhere on the Web have reported difficulties in trying to install Vista on systems with more than that amount of RAM installed. You can always replace the rest of the RAM afterwards and enable dual channel mode. I note that you have already updated your BIOS, but make sure that you have the latest drivers available for your system. I provide links for MSI, Realtek and both nVidia and ATI (since you haven't specified your graphics card manufacturer).

Thanks Dwarf, it worked out that way.
Installed vista and the drivers with one 2Gb bank.

But after replacing the second 2Gb bank, the short blue screen appears again and the pc did restart. After the thirth time vista loaded succesfully with 4Gb ram.

I have updated windows after replacing the second bank.
Maybe I should have done this before replacing.
After the updates the problem did not occur so far.

Got my thumbs crossed for a few days...

Hi Franc,

Pleased that it seems to have worked out for you. One thing I forgot to mention in my original post is that you do not need to activate straight away. You are allowed up to 30 days before activation is required. I suggest that you make use of this time period to ensure everything is running satisfactory. You can, of course, activate at any time, but once the 30 days is up then you will have to activate.
