| Administrator | Re: Replacing broken Hotstartuseragent.dll while its 'in use' ? Hi Teslyn, You might see if you can replace or repair it from within Safe Mode. This tutorial will show you how to get into Safe Mode if needed. Safe Mode I attached the Hotstartuseragent.dll file in a ZIP file from my system with SP1 installed if you need a good copy of it. I have Ultimate, but I do not believe that part matters. HotStartUserAgent.zip < Click to download Hope this helps, Shawn |

Excellent it let me replace the file whilst in safe mode. Uhhh, what? Anyways now my problems are growing. My start icon still does nothing (I've replaced both dll's that everyone says to replace). When I click on My Computer it does not actually show the icons for the various drives. AND now my DVDR does not appear at all. I so want to like Vista. I really do, but it's gone from awesome and pretty to a pain in the butt in a couple short weeks and all I do is game on this rig. My drivers for everything are up to snuff. | |||||||||||||||

| Administrator | Re: Replacing broken Hotstartuseragent.dll while its 'in use' ? Teslyn, I would go ahead and run a sfc /scannow command as John (z3r010) suggested to see if it can find and repair any bad system files. This tutorial will show you how to. System Files - SFC Command Shawn |

| Newbie | Re: Replacing broken Hotstartuseragent.dll while its 'in use' ? Small problem. No start menu. Can't find the base folder that holds the cmd prog. Ran it, but I can't seem to get the second stage done to determine which pieces are broken. I'm also feeling screwed because my only drive (DVDR) won't come back. I have no clue what is up with windows just deciding for no reason that the drive isnt there. So I can't exactly just pop my Vista disc in and wipe this drive (which I wish I could do because this is all becoming more hassle than Vista is worth).
