how do we remove Help and Support from start menu?

Sorry if this is already explained here somewhere, but I searched and didn't see it... I just want to remove Help and support from the vista start menu. I have it on classic if that makes any difference. I have x64 ult. Anyone know how?

Right click on the start bar -> properties -> Start menu tab -> customize button -> scroll down a bit -> untick help -> Ok -> Ok

Re: how do we remove Help and Support from start menu?

I have that ticked off, but as I said I'm using classic start menu, and when I switch back to that view Help and Support is still there, with no option to hide or remove it. I assume there's a registry entry that could remove it but can't find it so far.

Hi Bascule,

I found out how to do this for you from a Group Policy setting. I'm making a tutorial on it now. I'll post back with a link on how to do it soon.

1. gpedit.msc

2. User Configuration, Admistrative Templates, Start Menu and Taskbar, Remove Help menu from Start Menu

3. Enable

Thanks Shawn, excellent work. I'd searched all over and not found any tips for this, I'm sure others will make use of this info too. This is my new favorite forum. BTW, what tool do you use to track registry changes? I have an old one I use for XP but not sure if it would work on Vista.

Re: how do we remove Help and Support from start menu?

Your welcome Bascule,

I do not use anything to track the registry changes. I have most of the common areas to look at memorized. When I do need help tracking, I use the Defense + feature in the free COMODO Firewall Pro. It lets you know exactly where anything does something at the first time it is ran.

A good tracker program to use in Vista though is the free Process Monitor.
