System32 Problem: Will not reboot and won't enter safemode

Hey, so I was having problems with my control panel, it wasn't opening, so I tried to fix it using a thread in a different forum by copying my system 32 folder to my desktop and then trying to fix it, well it only did a bit of the system 32 folder, then my sister ran over and shut off my computer, well this is where it starts having problems. So I turn on my computer, but it won't turn on. It just comes to a Startup repair screen but it says that it can't automatically repair. Now i've tried restore point restart, but it won't because it seems I don't have any. I also tried to enter into safemode but it just takes me back to startup repair screen. If anyone can help it would be really appreciated because I have over 3000 songs, most of them bought, and some ripped, and over a 1000 family photos that i was stupid enough not to backup, PLEASE HELP, p.s. I don't have a Windows Vista disk because I bought my computer from Futureshop and it didn't come with any disks.

Hi heeps,

Wow you royally killed your installation, I dont know who told you to move the System32 folder but that was a big mistake......

Do you have any options to boot into recovery mode? All OEM computers come with a Recovery Partition and all you have todo is press a button during POST (power on self test screen) to gain access to it...

Are the MP3s and photos on a different partition?
If no, the most important thing to start with is to plug your HDD to another computer to make a back-up.
Then follow Dmex suggestions.

can you boot into dos (F8 on startup)?

Hello Heeps,

Welcome to the Forums!

If it's a Hewlet Packard machine by any chance.....
The "HP Recovery Center" on my machine offers to create backups before continuing.
The first option after that is to do a "MS System Restore" (at link below).
Then if you don't have any "good, saved" restore points it offers "System Recovery".
It can be accessed by booting into F11.

Let us know what you sort out.

Hi everyone, yeah, terrible website that told me to move my system 32 files, anyways, so I can boot into dos, not sure what to do from that point because it won't let me get into safemode or anything, I just downloaded the Vista recovery iso and i'm currently burning it but wondering what I should do after that, also, I tried a system restore from earlier point but it won't cause i have none, my computer is an Acer Inspire, not a Hewlett Packard.

Run the recovery disk as a boot disk and all should be fine. Go into your bios and tell it to boot from cd as the first boot priority.
If this fails run it from dos. If you only have one harddrive then it will be on the d: drive.
In dos type in;

D:
DIR

There should be something there that looks like a recovery or autorun program, just type in the name not forgetting the extension, (recovery.exe).
If you have anyother probs let us know but that should be the end of your probs.

I burned the WindowsVistax64Recovery.iso to a CD, but waht do I do now, I do not know how to boot from this iso, is it in the System Recovery Options list?

alright, now i've burned the .iso to a CD but now I don't understand what to do. I booted my computer from BIOS and changed it to boot from CD drive, then it loads form CD drive but it doesn't do anything else from their except go to a screen where it says repair computer or install vista, so I pressed repair computer, follow the steps and it just takes me back to System Recovery Options that do nothing
