Everytime I try to open up the control pane, Vista tells me that Windows Explorer has stopped working, then restarts it.
I'm using Business Ultimate 64bit. I've run sfc /scannow several times. I have a custom built PC, Giga-Byte EP35-DS4 Motherboard Intel Core 2 Quad at 2.4Ghz, Kentsfield model 2GB Ram, Crucial Ballistix DDR2 eVGA GeForce 8800 GT Seagate 500GB HD Samsung DVD Burner Encore Wireless card That's about it. Default BIOS setup. Any help would be appreciated... I tried running 'msconfig' and disabling all Non-Microsoft Services and all Startup items. Interestingly enough, when I boot into Safe Mode I can access the Control Panel just fine. I don't know what that means.. I'm new to this, I'm a Mac user by default. Thanks in advance! |

Look in your performance and error logs. You can get to this by clicking on start, then right click on computer and choose manage. There may be something there telling you what the exact problems is or more information on what is going on.

Hi Jared,
As a last resort you can do a Repair Install for Vista using some Guides already available on our site... This will allow you to repair your Vista installation and keep your user account files, settings, and programs. You will be performing a Upgrade Install from within your currently running Vista. Hey Jared,
What programs and drivers have you installed since the re-install? Its clear some 3rd party application is causing the control panel to crash when It trys to load them.. |

Not a lot, I just installed Vista yesterday. I didin't do a full reinstall today, I did a repair/upgrade install.
I have Putty, Steam, dbDesigner4, Firefox, Thunderbird, nVidia GeForce drivers, Realtek audio drivers, my Giga-Byte chipset drivers, encore wireless drivers, iTunes and Quicktime. That's about it.... I've tried running msconfig and disabling everything, but that didn't work. |
