| Vistax32 | I deleted my hard drive in disk management now i cant allocate it ok recently i formated my 1TB hard drive and then went to a friends place where i could then get some program files back. It then said i had to format it again which took 4hrs to do 6% so we thought this is taking way too long. So we canceled it, right clicked on the drive and went delete volume. now the drive comes ONLY in devies. In computer management it only shows up as Disk 1 with a grey box next to it with no options associated with it it is literaly just an outline. includes no info about the drive. we have tried uninstalling the drive - non successful well to be honest thats the only real option it gives us to do now What i wan to do is get the drive back to becing recognised in disk management so that i can allocate it again and put my files back on it please help. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate | Re: I deleted my hard drive in disk management now i cant allocate it Did you try rebooting and importing foreign drive in disk management. What happens when you right click on the partition on that drive? What shows up on the list? |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: I deleted my hard drive in disk management now i cant allocate it Hi Peter, In Disk Management, when you right click on the unallocated drive, you will need to click on New Simple Volume. Step Two in this tutorial will help show you how to do this. Disk Management - Shrink Partition Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista x64 Ultimate | Re: I deleted my hard drive in disk management now i cant allocate it Turn off/unplug the computer. Unplug the drive from the computer. Restart Windows verify its gone. Turn off Windows and unplug. Plug in and see if the drive works. Was the drive on a RAID controller. If yes, go into the RAID controller and see if its marked failed/bad. I have seen this cause a drive not to go back into Windows. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: I deleted my hard drive in disk management now i cant allocate it Peter, You may need to boot from your Vista Installaion DVD to format the drive, then cancel the installation process (Click on X in top right corner) if you did not want to install Vista. See steps 10 to 12 here for the drive options. Clean Install with a Full Version of Vista Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vistax32 | Re: I deleted my hard drive in disk management now i cant allocate it ok what im doing now is; I unplugged all of the sata connections except for the one which had the problem. I then booted from the windows installation disk The drive was there but it was unable to have windows installed on it because it was the wrong type of drive started with G cant remember the rest sorry I then went into the command prompt and went format C: then came up with the warning all data will be lost So now the drive is formatting and i can only assume that it is formatting the right one. If this dosn't work then im completly out of ideas. Any more feedback would be much appreciated |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: I deleted my hard drive in disk management now i cant allocate it Peter, I'm glad to hear that it is formatting for you now. Hopefully it will be recognized by Vista after it is done and you plug back in the other drives. Shawn |
