Vista Sidebar Error

Hi everyone,
I am experiencing an error with the Sidebar and no matter what I do, it doesn't fix the problem! I've tried everything that I could find within forums and it keeps coming up with the same error.
I am running Vista Home Basic and everytime I start up Windows, the Sidebar would load, and half way through loading, an error message pops up saying:

"Windows Sidebar has stopped working...
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem"

The same thing happens when I try opening up the Sidebar again. The Sidebar icon would show up in the taskbar but when I run my mouse over it, it just disappears.

Does anyone know what to do?

Hello Billy,

There must have been a time when it worked. You have to back track all your actions (things installed, settings changes etc)

Something has mucked things up for you and only a process of elimination will pin point the problem so we can correct it

Hi Sid. Thanks for the link but I've already tried that. I have also tried restoring Vista to the last known point that I thought would be ok but it still does not fix the problem. I dunno what's going on and it's driving me crazy!

Hi Billy,
Open sidebar properties in control panel then click on "view list of running gadgets" and remove gadgets you find there, try to open sidebar again.
If doesn't work, we'll try something else.

Sid et al.,

I am having the same issue and while I do know what caused the problem, I too cannot get it fixed.

On the first day I got this machine, back in October of 2007, I tried to add WeatherBug as a gadget to Windows Sidebar and from that point forward I get the same error messages as Billy does. The problem is that when this is happening, you cannot uninstall a gadget from the Sidebar or do anything else with the Control Panel control as no matter what you do, the same error (Windows Sidebar has stopped working, Windows is closing Windows Sidebar) comes up.

HELP!

I had similar sort of problems. I fixed it by deleting sidebar and then re installing it. Oh yea i copied sidebar folder from my other vista computer. I deleted sidebar folder from program files and then also from C:\Users\(your name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft.
Then i copied sidebar folder from other computer. I can upload the folder if someone wants. Then ran regsvr32 commands to intall it and register dll. that fixed it.
