Greetings!

Quick question! How do you import photos into windows photo gallery that are on disk? It won't let you add them if they're already in the Pictures folder. And if import them from outside pictures folder it just includes that outside folder.

The help is hideous for this app! If somebody has a hot idea could you please share it with me??

Thanks in advance! :)

I'm sorry but I don't fully understand your problem. From what I'm understanding, you are trying to copy pictures from a cd to your Pictures folder but it will not let you because there are already files in there with the same name? In that case, a prompt will show up and ask if you want to keep the originals, replace the files, or change the name of the new files you are importing. If they are not the same pictures but do have the same name, choose the third option that will let you keep all the files but it will simply change the files' names.

Hope I was of some help.

Spd2Last: The pictures already reside in the 'Pictures' folder. Gallery won't let you add them to the gallery because they are there and it gives me some nonsense message about system files. If I move these out of the 'Pictures' folder and then choose import folder it adds it to the gallery but keeps the current location instead of actually 'importing' them into the gallery.

That's correct. The gallery is not a folder that contains all of your pics, it is a database of the folders that you have told it to look in for pictures. When you click on a folder, it searches and indexes the pic files in that folder. If there are many files, this may take some time. Next time you open gallery it will search those folders for changes.

Hope this helps.

Gary,

I understand that. This is what happens. If I have a folder of pictures in my 'Pictures' folder and I choose File-->Add Folder to Gallery like the below image:

Then it tells me this:

My Pictures folder is neither hidden or a systems folder. So what gives?

Solved my own problem!! Yeah!!

I found this website:

Windows Photo Gallery - Adding Folder Error » senab

It did the trick! And if you already had images tagged no worry the image tags where preserved when the database was recreated. Dieing to see what happens when I try to add more pictures to it.

I'm not a huge MS fan. But the Gallery isn't that bad, its' a nice little tool. Better then milling over hundreds of folders for images.

Thanks!

Mark this SOLVED! :D

Glad to hear you've got it working. Whenever I add a new folder to the pictures folder or add pics to any subfolder, it/they are automatically added to the database. No need to import.

It was working like that when I first put my initial pictures in it back in January. The somewhere something happened. I have no idea what set that Picture folder to a system folder. Strange!

Everything is good now! Thanks for all your help!
