Just built two new computers, one is crashing when trying to play games

Problem description: Just built two brand new rigs last night. When trying to run Age of Conan or Team Fortress 2 it crashes to a blue screen and I get the error nv4_mini.sys and a wall of text. This is only one of the new PCs, the other one works flawlessly and has the same components.

Attempted fixes: Taking the advice of my internet friends, I switched the video cards, this did not work, the same one kept crashing and the other computer still worked fine. I took each stick of RAM out one at a time and this did nothing either.

Recent changes: Brand new computer.

Operating system: Windows Vista x64 ultimate.

System specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (4 gigs total each computer)
DFI BloodIron P35-T2RL LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s Hard Drive
EVGA 512-P3-N845-AR GeForce 8800GTS
CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX12V power supply

I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes. I googled nv4_mini.sys and I get nothing. My theory is the mother board may be funky, so hopefully I can RMA it from newegg. I also have the lastest drivers from the nvidia website, installed the chipset drivers and have fully updated windows.

But any suggestions would be welcomed, I'd rather not go through the hassle of doing all that.

Try an older nvidia driver as we have seen mixed results on here with the latest ones ;)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try that when I get home from work today. I was thinking of that two but I guess I was thinking the worse. Let's hope its just a driver issue, maybe something screwed up during the download or installation.

Another thing that you can do if both systems are identical is to swap your motherboards over. Connect ALL components (apart from your CPUs - you can leave them installed) from the working system to the system that is not working. If there is no change in the situation, and especially if your other motherboard works flawlessly with the swapped components, then it could be a faulty board.

Things I tried: switching motherboards, same results, testing the RAM, all worked fine. I uninstalled the drivers and erased with the driver program mentioned. It worked better, but still froze.

What worked: reinstalled windows and downloaded the latest nvidia drivers again, and everything is smooth sailing.

My Computer

Pleased to hear that everything is now working for you. Your reply reminded me of one of the fixes that I should have given you as an option in my previous post - if all else fails, try reinstalling Vista!

I wonder if this was ever originally part of Microsoft's planned recovery options :p It always seems to solve so many problems...
