Shadow on Monitor.

My apologies if I'm posting in the wrong section, or if this has already been answered but for about several months now, I've been experiencing a shadow on the Monitor. What I mean by that is, every text, image etc. has a black shadow after it, and to be quiet honest, it's getting very annoying. Is there any way to fix it?

By the way, I wish I could send you a screen shot, but I don't think it would show up on the image, since it's a personal monitor problem. :X

Is it an image burn?...I had that on one of my old laptops - The quick launch icons were slightly burned onto the screen. I managed to eliminate most of it by running a pure white image ( RGB 255,255,255) for twenty four hours.

Is your monitor old.......maybe use it as an excuse for an upgrade..........

Hi amypl0x,
Welcome to the Vista forums.

Are you talking about the effects like cleartype in the appearance settings ?

My Computer

That's odd.....Looks like some kind of convergence mismatch / issue.

What screen are you using? Are there any adjustments you can make to it via the front panel?

also...is it just on text or are images affected too?

Does it only happen with black and white?

Well, I tried to make an image to what it looks like, so bear with me. :zip: If you look at the picture closefully, you can see that I've added a grey shadow. That's exactly what I see. Also, my Monitor is only a year old.

But other than that, I really appriciate you all's help. :)

By the image you've provided, and from what you've discussed in our other posts, I'm guessing that you're using a LCD monitor. The "shadows" you're seeing must be some kind of color bleeding, where the light from adjacent pixels are interfering with one another.

Chances are if you where to take a regular screenshot and post it here, the image would be fine, without any of these shadows.

Does the problem persist if you use a different display?

It happends with ever image / text whether in color, or not. Also, I'm not sure which I'm using, but it's tag is "Hp w19e"

Yes, I am using an LCD and Yes, I still get a "bleed" effect with every image, whether it's Internet Explorer or my Rpg. :/

If you are using a VGA cable to connect to it try the pattern adjustment software in the link above .....maybe give it a go if you have a DVI connection aswell.

Check all video cable are properly inserted first to eliminate that possibility.

Ok, I followed that website and downloaded both links, but I'm still getting the same fuzzy "ghost" shadows... Am I doing something wrong? :/

My Computer

Ok, sorry about bring this thread back up, but after a couple of days, I had been leaving the "white screen" on, and I've only noticed that my shadows had gotten worse. Should I just call into Vista and as for a repar? :/

My Computer

if you took a screenshot and the blurry effect wasn't there or you posted it on here and we weren't able to see it then i doubt it's a problem with vista but a problem with your monitor or your monitor settings.

Uuumm...I'd try a different monitor cable ....or graphic card ( not always possible ).

I've only seen issues with text when using a vga cable through a dvi connection.....Not sure what else to suggest.

What resolution are you running at? The native resolution for your monitor is 1440x900 @ 60Hz. If you are not running at that, try setting it to that and see if there is any difference.

And if you are using a VGA (D-Sub) cable press the AUTO botton on your monitor to do the auto adjustment.

My Computer

Ok, I just checked. I have it at 1440 x 900 and is at 60 Htz.
As for the cable, I'm not sure since I'm a bit ignorant towards Vista... Or, actually just computers. :o Anyways, like I was saying.

  • 1440 x 90 - Check
  • 60 Htz. - Check
  • White Screen Test - Check
Is there something that I am missing? - Thanks.

My Computer

Does your cable look something like this:

If so hit the AUTO button on your monitor. If it isn't the auto-adjust won't have any effect.

Hi , I faced exactly the same problem of shadows after all black text and black graphics in my 17" samsung LCD monitor SyncMaster 740n .
It continued for more than a month and no setting of screen and pc could correct it .

One day I just pressed the screen ends with cabinet from both left and right and just found it got corrected instantly ...........:D .

Perhaps some loose connections in the monitor ..........

try the same if anybody of you face a similar problem.

cheers

My Computer

I know this post is over 2 years old,but I've been having the same problem off and on for the last year, when it first happened someone recommended that it was a wire interference so I moved my router and it worked, now it started doing it again yesterday. I tried the same thing moving anything that may cause an interference;didn't work,I adjusted the monitor settings - nothing, then I changed my computers appearance settings nothing again. I disabled a few programs that may have changed the appearance;and of course nothing.

So,as most of you know simply resetting or unplugging an electrical device usually fixes the problem,so that's exactly what I did,and IT WORKED!!

Just wanted to share
