How do I fix slow firewire performance?

I have vista64 and service pack one. I have tried several hotfixes but they "do not apply to my system." I have also disabled Remote Differential Compression.

My Firewire transfer speeds slow and eventually hang. The drive is fine, I have tested it on other computers.

How do i fix Vista64 to properly copy files to and from my firewire drive?

Re: How do I fix slow firewire performance?

How is it connected to the computer? Did you check its settings in the device manager? Is it a firewire 800 drive on a firewire 400 controller? Did you apply the correct chipset patches?

Re: How do I fix slow firewire performance?

It's FW400 connected to the port on the mother board. All drivers are current and correct. My mother board does not have a FW800 port.

Edit: could you clarify what you mean by chipset patches? I have a XFX 780i mother board with the most current drivers.

Is the drive connected with the proper Firewire cable for FW400? The chipset patch for the motherboard and your OS.

Re: How do I fix slow firewire performance?

It's a 6 pin, it is proper.

i don;t know of any patches specifically for my chipset. I have searched but have not found anything relevant.

I don't know XFX boards. What speed firewire drive is it? Have you tried running error checking and defrag on it?

Re: How do I fix slow firewire performance?

The drive is fine. I have tested it on several other computers. This vista machine is new and does not handle firewire well at all.

Re: How do I fix slow firewire performance?

I have three firewire 800 drives on a Firewire Direct NitroAV firewire 800 /USB2 controller. My drives do 50-55 MB/s sustained. I would suggest checking your BIOS settings for firewire 1384 settings.

Re: How do I fix slow firewire performance?

I can dual boot in XP on the same machine. It works fine in XP. It's just Vista that is having problems.

Can you tell me specifically what to look for in the BIOS? I didn't see anything I thought was pertinent.

Just make sure your firewire is configured properly.
