Ok so whenever i start my pc it makes this loud noise im sure its coming from the fan, processor fan, psu or maybe gfx card. i have made sure no wires are touching any parts. Oddly it makes this noise then dissapears for a while only to come back again but even louder. so please help me figure out what is making this noise (by the way my pc is not even a year old and only things i upgraded was gfx card and power supply) this started happening only today but never before. and when the pc makes loud noise it sounds like someone is using a drill. please help. Re: Loud PC Noise? (especially on startup)?

When was the last time you opened it up and cleaned the dust from everything, including all cooling fan blades and heatsinks?
I couldn't really get anything from your first video but the second one sounded like something is touching the blades of one of your fans as it spins. You have to isolate which fan this is coming from if you can, it shouldn't be too hard really.
I had a unit once where a part of a plastic guard inside the power supply unit had loosened and was being hit by the fan. It was a simple fix but opening the PSU case voids any warranty (if it still has one).
Without physically being there ourselves, it's impossible for anyone to accurately track just where this is coming from really, you'll have to try yourself. One suggestion that could help is to take any kind of flexible tube and while holding one end to your ear, move the other end around different parts in the case. You will hear the sound loud and clear when you have the tube in front of the object in question. This is an old trick from the mechanic days to find engine knocks with a piece of garden hose, it works very well actually. Then you just have to find what's in there that's causing this noise or if it's a bad bearing/bushing.

Re: Loud PC Noise? (especially on startup)?

I agree with what chappy is saying here
however i have had 3 similar sounding problems in the past on 1 of my older p.c's

The 1st problem was my Power supply.... i never did find the actual problem/cause,i 1st thought it was only a cable tie but eventually it started tripping out and gave up the ghost some months later

The 2nd problem was my HDD... it started with a low noise like what your herring then after several months the noise backame louder untill i realised that the discs or reader inside wer bocoming loose at wich point i backed up all my data and replaced the HDD

The 3rd problem was and still is with my external HDD, i know the problem with this is the fan being loose on its spindle... not a big problem, you can easy check you fans by unplugging you pc from the wall and gentaly pull and wiggle the fan blades to see if there is any play in them(not so easy for a power supply fan)

Re: Loud PC Noise? (especially on startup)?

Could be bad bearings. Check your motherboard health monitor for fan RPM. See if one of the fans is spinning very slowly compared to the other ones. This would show a bad heatsink fan. Opent he case and listen when you turn it on. Could be a bad power supply fan. Usually, its the CPU fan.

Re: Loud PC Noise? (especially on startup)?

You can check to see if it is a case fan by disconnecting the power to each fan (just the case fans). If the sound goes away then you will know which fan is causing the noise. Most other reasons have already been mentioned, bad hd, bearings and things touching the fans. Check to ensure the fans are not touching the case.

Re: Loud PC Noise? (especially on startup)?

Ok a question :S . how do i open my processor fan and clean the dust under it ??? cuz i opened up my case and saw a lot of dust under there. and as for fans slowing down, i havent noticed that (i use pc wizard 2008 and it shows my chasis fan around 900 rpm - what is the chasis fan :S ; and my processor fan around 1800-1900 rpm).

plz help :S

edit: also, if i take out my processor fan for several seconds, wont my processor burn up (i saw it on a youtube vid and i have amd). i just wanna be safe before removing all the fans.

Re: Loud PC Noise? (especially on startup)?

I have the same problem.... I found out that my gfx card was getting clogged with dust.
I blew it out then the sound went away

Chassis fan are connected to the motherboard fan connections. Your software should list it by connection. Find the connection and trace the wire back to the fan.

Usually FAN 1 is CPU 1
FAN 2 is CPU 2
etc.

900 RPM is a bad fan. Replace it.

Aha! I found it..its my power supply. Guess i have to replace it...
any suggestions of what i can do to it to make the noise go away or do i have to replace it?

I would replace the power supply. www.pcpower.com check out the silencer series.
