Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

It really just recently started doing this and all the info I've found elsewhere pointed to Roxio; which I did have on my computer. But after removal (a very thorough removal at that), I'm still getting the crash. Any advice?

Re: Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

Hi Richmantoo,

You might see if this tutorial is part of the issue. It should be enabled for Dreamscene to work.

Show Translucent Selection Rectangle - Enable or Disable

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

Thanks for your reply, but I do have that enabled. The last few times it happened, though, I've noticed something. I don't think its the selection rectangle, I think it happens when I minimize a window, particularly Firefox 3.0 RC2. Could the minimize/maximize animation have any affect on it?

Re: Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

Richmantoo,

I tested the minimize/maximize animation with Firefox 3.0 RC2 on my system with a Dreamscene running and had no problems with it.

I would try doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before the problem started to see if that will fix it.

Re: Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

I would...buuuut, I kind of disabled System Restore. I disabled the min/max animation and haven't had any problems yet, but it's only been about an hour since I did that (I think). I'll give it sometime and see if it happens again. Thanks for all of your help!!

Re: Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

Rich,

Strange that this would be a cause of the problem. You might run a sfc /scannow command to see if it can find and fix any bad system files that may be behind the problem to, then test the minimize/maximize again to see if it will work properly again. This tutorial will show you how to if needed.

System Files - SFC Command

Re: Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

I'd rather use that as a last resort. I've replaced a bunch of system files over time and I cannot for the life of me remember what all of those are specifically. It's been about 4 hours now and it hasn't happened again. Maybe I need update some video drivers or something, I don't know. Again though, thanks!

Re: Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

Well, it's happened again. No idea why. I don't, however, think it was the selection rectangle that was causing it initially, but rather the min/maxing of windows. With the animation disabled, it's crashed twice while minimizing iTunes and a regular window (Control Panel). I guess I'll have to do sfc and hope that fixes it.

Re: Dreamscene crashes when using selection rectangle on desktop

As a test uninstall iTunes to see if your problem goes away with it.
