I have done a silly thing. I have an Acer Aspire 4520 with Vista Home Premium. On my previous pc which was a Windows 98 I did a lot of quick basic programming for fun. On vista though you can't run dos in full screen So I really wanted to load a version of Windows 98 on to a new partition on my new computer. I created a new partition and a windows 98 startup cd and re started the computer. I ran fdisk and set the new partition active and attempted to load Win98. For some reason unknown to me 98 wouldn't install properly so I gave up. I restarted and deleted the partition through fdisk. I then set the Vista partiton active and now the computer won't load vista at all, only a black screen with a flashing cursor.

Is there anyone who knows how to get vista working again.

Hello haisoj123,

Welcome to the forums!

Your only real option may be to do a "System Recovery" from the OEM Recovery Partition
supplied on the computer from the manufacturer.
Check the documentation that came with the machine.

Try the Repair first - Windows 98 does not recognize NTFS formatted partitions, and yet may have messed up the boot files / MBR when attempting to install itself to the new partition you made.

If that does not work then try to use your System Recovery system, but be advices that that will in all likelihood format your drive and get rid of all your personal files.
