Issue's with adding more ram.

I bought my PC with 2 gigs of ram " the companies ram price was super high" and i bought 8 gigs of OCZ2vu8004gk pc 6400 2gig Dualchannel, the "vista upgrade ram". Ive had alot of issues with the computer running without the standard ram i bought it with. Like my old MB died and i got a replacement from the maker of my pc and i couldn't reinstall vista until i put the original ram back in.

The qeustion being y would i have to put the original ram back in and is there something in vista that gets testy when you change hardware?

Re: Issue's with adding more ram.

Hi,
check if your Motherboard is capable of using your RAM type. If this is the case, you shouldn't have any problems using your RAM.

Re: Issue's with adding more ram.

i got a M2n-sli deluxe the specs say i can go up to 8 gigs with 2 gig sticks. So after i got the operating system back in i should be able to install the ram then?

Re: Issue's with adding more ram.

Well i don't know why it shouldn't work. Vista has no problems with 8 GB RAM. When you experience probs, the hardware is the one to blame for. You could try a BIOS update then. But before you do it, just try it...

Re: Issue's with adding more ram.

Wrong - Vista has no problems with 8 GB of RAM ***depending on a variety of factors***, a lot of which seem to be chipset related.

Have you tried just *2* of the OCZ RAM installed until Vista is installed? I own an eVGA motherboard that has an nVidia chipset, and it seems that Vista doesn't like installing if all 4 DIMM slots are populated....

Could be a similar issue for your board as well....

Re: Issue's with adding more ram.

i wasn't ssaying vista has issues with 8 gigs i ment my system is getting fatals with the ocz 8 gigs. BUT update i tryed using the Asus bios update becuase it i was unable to get even the 3 sticks working without error. With the great luckive been haveing with this system i got kicked in the balls again. the asus support tool was doing the bios update and it FAILED now i can't reinstall the old bios becuase the bios freezes up when trying to get into the flash tool. wewt im sick of this pc ive had nothing but bad luck with it. bahh

i can only assume now im gonna have to get a new Motherboard or is there another method of getting the old bios back in

btw my MB is a M2N-sli deluxe

Re: Issue's with adding more ram.

Install one stick. Download memtest86 ISO CD. Burn it. Use it to test each stick one at a time.
