RunDLL Error

Hey
When I log into my user account two RunDLL messages come up saying that these two files cant be found. One of them is C:Users/Alana/AppData/Local/Temp/Q... (something) and the other one is C:Users/Alana/AppData/Roaming/(something). And then when i try and open internet explorer it doesnt open... But then i log onto my guest account, which is the one I'm using now, and everything is fine, internet explorer works fine and I dont get any error messages.
I recently did have some viruses on my computer which I got rid of with AVG antivirus but I have no idea why my internet wouldnt be working or why those files would have gone missing on only one of my accounts...
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Any help would be awesome!
Thanks,
Alana

Re: RunDLL Error

Hi, Alana, welcome to the forums.

First , I need to dispel a misconception you have - your internet *explorer* is not working - your internet (connection) is working fine. There *is* an important distinction in terminology.

Secondly, when you had those viruses, how did you get rid of them, did you use a website to do it, or have a friend help you, or what? We will need some more specific information in order to help you out.

Re: RunDLL Error

ahk. yep my internet explorer won't open although my internet connection is fine.
and it's only on my main account and not on my guest account.

i used AVG antivirus.. the free version.. to get rid of the viruses. which i think came from limewire when i downloaded some songs and i didn't have any protection because my previous norton inernet security had expired. when i realised, i deleted everything to do with limewire and got AVG. im thinking maybe i accidently deleted those files but I'm not sure how i could have done that.

those 2 error messages only started coming up a few days ago and I hadn't really fiddled with anything just before they started coming up. and my internet explorer was working.. but really badly (as in sites were taking ages to load, whereas if i used the internet explorer on my guest account everything was working fine and sites loaded normally) until yesterday it just stopped opening at all.

im so confused and really annoyed cos i havent had this computer for very long but its all stuffed up now. and i blame limewire!.. altho i have no idea what i've done.

anyways hoping you or someone else might know how to figure this out )
thanks heaps,
Alana

Re: RunDLL Error

Your best bet is to run through Malware Removal and Prevention: Introduction - CastleCopsWiki and start working your way through to see what you can do to get rid of the rest of your infection. This may be a deeper problem than it first looks like but the good news is that, since you had the presence of mind to create a new profile, all hope is not lost, seeing as it seems to work without any issues in the new profile.

If you have any questions about that link, feel free to ask....I am not a 'security' expert there, but I am a member of the Special Response Team over there as well, and if you were to decide to take further steps to get your machine cleaned, I would advise you to create a login there and then follow the steps to creating a HiJack This log for analysis.

It may look a bit daunting, at first, but it has a lot of good steps in both finding and removing Malware as well as setting you up with prevention techniques to help you safeguard yourself from future infestations.

Another site to read through as well would be the Calendar Of Updates -> CoU - a good set of security-specific tutorials designed with the new user in mind. I would recommend going through that *after* the first one as you really need to fix what is wrong first, and then learn about the prevention techniques after your computer is back in order.
