Missing Filenames

I seem to recall this issue being covered in another post, but for the life of me I can't find it. But why does this happen sometimes in Explorer:

Click the image to open in full size.

How can I stop it from happening, or at the very least, if it does, but can I do to get the filenames back in the current view. I know I can change the view style to details or tiles, but I'd really rather prefer to keep the Thumbnail view which I find to be better suited for file management.

It should be noted that this seems to happen mostly with Search, since I installed Windows Search 4.0...

Re: Missing Filenames

Hi Peter,

Click on View from the menu bar and click Hide File Names. That should bring them back for you.

Folder Window Icon Text - Hide or Show File Names

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Doh! I've gotten so used to Explorer without the menu bar it never even occured to me to check that...

I'll try that when it happens again.

That worked well enough for a Windows Exporer view ("View"->"Hide File Names"), but the "Hide File Names" command isn't on the view menu when I'm searching:

This is important, because I use filenames AND tags for organizing files....

Re: Missing Filenames

Peter,

That option is only available when the opened window is using the Pictures and Video folder template. Once set, you can change the template to any other one with the names still staying set as hide or show.

Folder Window Icon Text - Hide or Show File Names

Hope this helps,
Shawn
