Opinions on this ?

Hi everyone, actually this is basically more on what you guys think. Being on a 17" CRT 1024 x 768 resolution for a long time, would it be alright to move over to a 13.3" screen with 1280 x 800 resolution ? Yes I've been told by many of the designers that it is not good at all but I think the comments weren't exactly right since they are already working on large monitors with high resolution support. So what say you ? Of course I'm no professional in designing, currently still studying and learning.

Re: Opinions on this ?

It all depends on what you are going to be doing, but moving to a screen that small is going to be harsh, *especially* if you *increase* the resolution - it will be tiny. On a screen that small I would probably go no higher than 1024 x 768, unless you can read it OK - take care to remember, though that eye strain is one of the associated side effects of being at a computer for long periods of time, and the smaller the screen the greater chance there is for eye strain.

(This, of course, is strictly *my* opinion - others may have something else to say so keep watching the thread.)

At the moment I'll be using it for learning purposes on the Adobe softwares. I thought of going for 13.3" which gives me mobility and considering the weight, it is much easier for me to carry it around.

The screen size will make working on some images difficult.

So what you are trying to say is that it is not impossible just that a 13.3" screen with 1280x800 resolution will just make life with design works such as Adobe range of products difficult to use ? Difficult as in not so organized and workspace is limited right ?

Re: Opinions on this ?

it's not just that the workspace is going to be limited - you're attempting to use a *larger* resolution on a *smaller* screen - this is going to result in a severely compressed image because of the larger resolution and smaller screen - if you don't beleive me, find a local retailer with a small screen like that and then crank up the resolution to compare.

Now, we are saying tat it *might* be too small - then again, I run 1600 x 1200 on both of my 19" CRTs, so I like the compressed feel - I'd rather have the greater real estate, and my eyes are not bad....yet.

I think I get you, so apart from the cons of it, it is still possible to do those illustration works and so on but just that it won't feel as comfortable as doing it on a bigger monitor.

Re: Opinions on this ?

I do A/V and CAD work on my monitor. I am looking at a larger monitor to work on pictures in actual size. Does it have the proper specs to be configured for Photoshop to show proper colors and features?
