WMP Network Sharing Service Error

Hi,
Do I have a problem, or not? The event 14344, Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, shows up as an error in the event log every day since applying SP1. This is a D820 with Vista Ultimate.

I do not see any problems with the WMP, and the WMPNetworkSvc is started and appears to be working as seen in Services and in Process Explorer.

Two requests to the group: 1) could you check your events and see if you are also logging this error, and 2) any suggestions as to a resolution?

General:
A new media server was not initialized because WMCreateDeviceRegistration() encountered error '0xc00d2711'. The Windows Media DRM components on your computer might be corrupted. Verify that protected files play correctly in Windows Media Player, and then restart the WMPNetworkSvc service.

See WMPNetworkSvc Fails to Start - Media Player for a couple of fixes - if you are unsure about performing any of those steps, post back and we'll tackle it together.

Re: WMP Network Sharing Service Error

Who is John Galt?

Thanks John that did the trick!

Cryptographic Services was started, but was set to 'Manual'. I changed this to 'Automatic'.

My WMP privacy settings were set as in the attachment and I did not change these.

Silly Microsoft doesn't even show Cryptographic Services as a dependancy for WMP Network Sharing or vice versus.

Re: WMP Network Sharing Service Error

Technically, it is not a dependency for WiMP - but it *is* for DRM encoded media...

And "I am John Galt." :P
