Offline Desktop files of the living dead

forgive me father, for I have placed large files on my desktop...

Vista64 Enterprise laptop. Desktop redirects to \\myserver\mylogin\Desktop.

I downloaded a bunch of junk (11GB) to the desktop of the laptop. Deleted said files when offline. Deleted server copies using terminal services.

When I log in to the server, the login process takes literally an hour. [Welcome...] When I get in, the junk is back. For the past two weeks, I have just pulled the network cable which returns immediately and lets me get working, but the junk is still there. [I get a profile error]

When I log in without access to the server, the junk is gone, but when I begin login online and pull the plug, the junk returns.

I deleted the server copies. I deleted the copies in c:\user\mylogin\desktop. I took ownership of csc and deleted them from there, yet they keep reappearing.

Where are they coming from and how do I destroy them once and for all?

Hi Brian,
I'm just guessing here, but here is what I might try to do:

Login with the network active so that you are also attached to your network - go to lunch and come back one hour later. ;)

Browse to \\myserver\mylogin
Right click on Desktop folder and choose restore previous version (here, I am assuming that it is a protected drive and that shadow copies exist).

Browse to local users (C:\Users\mylogin) right click on Desktop folder and choose restore previous version.

If either of the previous versions has a shadow copy of the 11GB of data then these will be restored.

Also, search for a roaming profile in C:\Users\mylogin\AppData\Roaming look for a 'Desktop' folder there - I don't think there will be one, but just in case there is... your zombies could be hiding there too.

Now, you can delete however many copies of 'x' appear on your desktop and in theory your zombies are vanquished forever.

I hope this helps.

I solved it by:

1) Deleting everything in myServer\users\mylogin\Desktop
2) Deleting everything in c:\users\mylogin\Desktop
3) Deleting everything in c:\windows\csc\framer.. blah blah blah
4) Discovering the existence of myserver\profiles\mylogin\Desktop
wait- who created that? Some Group Policy Object experiment run awry??
5) Deleting everything in myserver\profiles\mylogin\Desktop

Thanks for the suggestions!
