| Newbie Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Can't restore default location for Pictures folder - PLEASE HELP! Hi all! I'm a newbie in this forum and am desperately seeking help for a problem I'm having with my Pictures folder. Please excuse the lack of technical jargon! I know it's sounds really stupid and I'm sure it's a User Based Problem but I seem to have lost my original Pictures folder.I've been going into the Pictures folder that had my pictures in it under my Personal folder, but am now trying to delete another Pictures folder that has cropped up. Everytime I delete the new one (that has heaps of dropdown folders off it) the original one stops working. Now I've tried going into Properties\Location of the original folder and restoring the default location (because it's currently showing the location as C:\Users\Kai\Pictures\Pictures\Pictures). When I try to restore it to the default that comes up when I hit that button (C:\Users\Kai\Pictures) it comes up with the Move Folder warning, I hit Yes, then get a error that says "Can not redirect descendant into parent, the specified path is invalid". I am on the verge of tearing my hair out, can someone please help me????? Thank you in advance!! KG |

| Member Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Can't restore default location for Pictures folder - PLEASE HELP! It is true, you cannot move the descendant into the parent. Try this change the location to C:\Users\Kai\TempHold and be sure and say yes to moving all the pictures. When it is done, go back and change the location to C:\Users\Kai\Pictures, again be sure to indicate that you wish to move all the pictures. Now, you probably will want to go back in to Pictures and get rid of those silly subfolders. Does this help? -solon fox |

Hi KG28, See if using Option Two in this tutorial to restore the default location of the Pictures folder through the registry will help you. Personal User Folder - Restore Missing Folder Hope this helps, Shawn |

Me, well I figured I would try to help him move the pictures at the same time since he was almost there already.Your way is probably better, fix the location and then move the photos out of the subdirectories to the main folder. -solon fox |

Your method looks fine. The registry is just a more direct way that usually works better when there is a problem with the other way. Keep up the great job of helping. Shawn |

Shawn, I used your method and managed to restore the pictures folder in the correct place. Unfortunately the shell still wasn't right so I thought I'd be a smarta** and use the tutorial on Personal User Shell Folders Personal User Shell Folders You wouldn't believe it (or perhaps you would?) but now instead of having Pictures I have something called Public Desktop! In Explorer the Favourite Link for Pictures is still there but when I click on it it goes to the Public Desktop folder!!! Obviously, these problems are Used Based, but more help on this would be greatly appreciated! (even just to get me back to after I used your solution pre-the other tutorial!) Thank you! KG |

KG, See what the Target is for the C:\Users\Kai\Links\Pictures folder is (right click and click Properties). It should be C:\Users\Kai\Pictures. Shawn |
