| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Can I install WinXP on brand new WinVista Laptop Hi, Just bought a new HP Pavilion DV2860 notebook. For a couple of days I have been using Vista and I didn't really like it. Many of the applications that I used to use in on Windows XP are not capiable with Windows Vista! I have got a Windows XP Professional 64-bit edition CD and was planning to install Windows XP on the notebook. Can I use 2 operating systems on the notebook? I don't want to delete Windows Vista but I want Windows XP. Can someone please explain the process of installing Windows XP without removing Windows Vista Home Premier. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate | Re: Can I install WinXP on brand new WinVista Laptop I would check their web site for XP x64 chipset drivers for the laptop. HP does not really do a good job on supporting XP x64. |

| Vista Home Premium 32-bit & Vista Ultimate 64-bit both Service Pack 2 W7 Pro RTM 7600 32 & 64 | Re: Can I install WinXP on brand new WinVista Laptop Hi looi76, As mentioned elsewhere in these forums, Vista can get a bit of getting used to at first, but once you get used to it things start to become second nature. Unfortunately, I don't think that you are going to have any success with attempting to install a 64-bit edition of XP on your notebook. A quick check of the HP website (link to the main 'Software & driver downloads' page given at the end of this post) reveals that whilst both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista have full support, only the 32-bit version of XP has full support. The 64-bit version of XP has support, but it is only partial and it may mean that certain features of your notebook will no longer work under this OS. If you do want to take the risk, then ensure that you have first created your recovery disks for your notebook (follow the instructions in the manual). That way, you should be able to restore your notebook to its original state should things go wrong. Then follow the instructions at the following site: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_v...step_guide.htm. Please note that this is an external site and that you carry out the instructions therein AT YOUR OWN RISK. However, this procedure can be complicated and bewildering for many so the best answer that I can give you is that you check the websites of your various applications to see if they have updates or patches to enable them to work in the Vista environment. A brand new machine shouldn't behave in this way and if the fault is to do with one or more of the hardware components then changing the OS is unlikely to make any difference. Dwarf |
