Autoplay doesn't work

Hi: This is a basic question, so I've searched for an answer here but didn't find one. I just did a clean install on my dell with vista home premium (32). Everything works fine except no music CDs, DVDs, or software CDs will autoplay. I've changed the settings in CP to different selections and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Re: Autoplay doesn't work

Thanks, Shawn. But the box was already checked and the services were already on as you described.

Re: Autoplay doesn't work

Ok Wburritt,

I believe I found a solution for you. This reg download will reset the AutoRun settings in the registry so it is back to the default On and Enabled settings. This is what is inside the reg file.

Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom]
"AutoRun"=dword:00000001
AutoRun_On.reg < Click to Download

1. Save the reg file to your desktop.
2. Right click on it and click Merge.
3. Approve all of the pop-ups to apply.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Autoplay doesn't work

Hey Shawn: Thanks a ton. But I found out it was a conflict with my Zone Alarm antivirus software. Uninstalled it and that took care of the problem. Thanks for all you help!
