can someone please give me some advice.

Hello all, i just registered here and hope someone can help me. Lately my laptop has been acting up. Explorer.exe stopped working,IE and firefox kept crashing, kept recieving annoying popups. I noticed in the log that that the crashing of explorer.exe had something to do with msvcrt.dll. I checked for spyware, found a lot, and thought that maybe my msvcrt.dll was infected (nOOb). With some help from this site i managed to rename msvcrt.dll to msvcrt.old and deleted it. I guess you feel where this is going...

I didn't realize that msvcrt.dll was so important. I thought i could restart and download the .dll form somewhere and all wouild be fine but...my laptop now doesn't startup at all, i get a bsod saying that reinstalling msvcrt.dll might solve things. I have an acer laptop that came with vista pre-installed, i don't have a cd. There are some recovery options i can select when booting, but none seem to work eventually , because of the missing file. Can anyone tell me what's the best thing to do ?

Thanx for your help
!!

you can try restoring from the hidden partition by pressing F8 at the boot up and this should recover your system to the way it was when you bought it

Re: can someone please give me some advice.

thanx for the answers, system restore didn't work. Alt-f10 did the trick, had to reinstall vista. Maybe for the better, had problems with viruses and spyware.

Thanx again!
