| Newbie | Won't Hibernate, sleep unless at Switch User Screen Running Vista 64 Ultimate and have never been able to get the computer to automatically power down (hibernate, sleep etc) while in an account. Did some troubleshooting and realized that the computer will power down from the Switch User screen (with users logged on or not), but will not if a user account is running. Any ideas? |

| Antidisestablishmentarian | Re: Won't Hibernate, sleep unless at Switch User Screen Hi, rglowitz, and welcome to the forums. Have you tried going through Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems to see if you can fix your problem? |

| Newbie | Re: Won't Hibernate, sleep unless at Switch User Screen Yes. Nothing works. Have run a diagnostic startup through msconfig and got the same results so I'm convinced it is not a driver issue. As long as I'm not at the switch user screen the computer never "times out" and never enters a sleep mode. |

| Newbie | Re: Won't Hibernate, sleep unless at Switch User Screen I don't see that function anywhere in the BIOS setup nor in the manual. All the power on from external devices that are features of the BIOS are set to disabled. Maybe I'm getting tunnel vision, but if this was caused by a BIOS setting it seems like the computer would function the same way (that is, not power off) when I'm at the Switch User screen. |

| Antidisestablishmentarian | Re: Won't Hibernate, sleep unless at Switch User Screen That is what I would have conjectured as well, but then again, I realize that there are more than a few idiosyncrasies with M$ software.... I am assuming that you have set your power options and such? have you tried changing to the most conservative power plan, the maximum energy savings plan? |

| Newbie | Re: Won't Hibernate, sleep unless at Switch User Screen Yes, I just tried that without success. My working hypothesis is that somehow the timer function doesn't work unless I'm at the Switch User window. If I knew where to look for that timer I could prove that although I still wouldn't know what was causing the problem. |

| Newbie | Re: Won't Hibernate, sleep unless at Switch User Screen I can't find that setting in my ASUS p5k deluxe MOB. I've emailed tech support at Microsoft with the problem as I was hoping that SP1 would have fixed things. I'll post an answer if they are able to figure this out. Thanks. |
