Problem Changing Virtual Memory Size

I am trying to change the size of Virtual memory on my sisters laptop. It is running vista home and has only 1 gb of RAM. I click on where you change the virtual memory and click CUSTOM (on the C drive, which is only hard drive she has). And i set it to 2048 min and 2048 max. I Click set then ok. then ok again, and once again ok. Then it prompts me to Restart the computer, so I do. But after I restart and check to see if it worked, it still shows that the custom size wasn't added.

Can anyone help me fix this, because I have followed about 10 different tutorials on how to do this and it still doesn't work.

Thanks

Re: Problem Changing Virtual Memory Size

Hi, gotriceboy, and welcome to the forums.

First of all, you need to realize something - a lot of laptops share physical RAM with their video cards, so putting an upper limit on the Virtual Memory may not be a good idea.

Second - Did you defragment the drive before doing this?

Third - did you try from Safe Mode?

Re: Problem Changing Virtual Memory Size

So, what exactly are you saying that i should do to the Virtual Memory?

And I did defrag the harddrive not to long ago, but maybe i should do it again.

Also, I have not tried in safe mode yet.

Re: Problem Changing Virtual Memory Size

Always defrag immediately before changing the page file.

Re: Problem Changing Virtual Memory Size

Well i ran the defrag and changed it in safe mode, but still no luck. It will only either have system managed size (which is like 1314 or something like that) or No Page Filing. Is it because it probably shares the memory with the Video card?

Re: Problem Changing Virtual Memory Size

Hi,
When you change the virtual memory size, just write a min size higher than the actual size if you want to increase it, and a max size which has to be different than the min size. For example, if the actual size is 1322 Mb, set the min to 2000 and the max to 2200., then aplly, etc..... No reboot should be ask if you increase the memory size, reboot is needed if you decrease it.

Now, if it does not work, i guess that you turned off UAC, turn it on and try as above, it should work.

Re: Problem Changing Virtual Memory Size

Everytime I try to do it tells me to reboot, so I do. But I check it after the reboot and its back to "No Page Filing".

Also, I checked to see if UAC was on, and it is.
