Vista 64 (and 32!) installation woes

Hi

Decided to make the jump from XP to Vista 64 Ultimate.

Did a fresh install, formatting the drive, and all semed to install fine. My problems started as soon as I began to use the it. I prefer Firefox so the first thing I tried to do was to open the Firefox homepage in IE7 to download it. However IE7 decided that it likes some sites and not others. When I clicked on the Firefox link IE gave an error mesaage "Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working" and needed closing. In fact if I just opened IE7 to the default 'msn' site and then closed it I got the same error message.

Next I tried to install drivers for my printer which should work with Vista 64. The software insalled but the drivers did not.

I tried installing some Creative X-Fi 64 bit drivers but the system just rebooted half way through and then I got a blue screen of death until I went through the system repair console and it did a system restore!

Next I attempted to install Daemon tools. All that happened is that it tried to the first part where it installs the SPTD driver, it asked to reboot and after the reboot tries to install this same driver. This just goes in a loop.

In tried googling for answers but nothing I found worked. In desperation I did a complete reinstall of Vista 64. No luck. So then I tried Vista Ultimate 32. Again I get EXACTLY the same problems. Now considering going bcak to XP!

Can anyone shed light on these problems? Thanks

Hello blenky, and welcome.

Could you please post your system specs.

Like type of motherboard, type of processor, video card and any other devices you use.

I run Vista Ultimate x64 on my main system and x86 Home Premium and x64 business on the rest.

Your problems are not unheard of, but right out of the gate they shouldn't be happening.

Personally I suspect a driver issue or a piece of incompatible hardware.

Post your specs and we will be able to tell.

My main rig runs Vista Ultimate or Server 2008. Depending on which Acronis image I decide to load.

:o:o My bad! I used the wrong version of Vista from MSDN download site. I got hold of a debug version:o:o

Sorry to waste your time. Now I've got the correct version all is as sweet as a nut!
