Mp3 Files Details Problem

Hi all,
I have a problem in my computer. The problem is I cannot change any details of all mp3 files such as the name of artist, album, genre and the title on the mp3 file itself. I mean when I right click on a mp3 file and go properties-->details, I cannot change anything here. When I open that file via Tag&Rename, I can see all details of that mp3 file. But on windows I cannot. One week ago there was no proplem. I used CCleaner to clean my registry and afterwards some problems arised.:( I hope someone can solve this problem.

You dont need to repost. Its Auto Generated Info in Windows Media Center. Like Track ID, it names music automaticly to try to make it easier for you.

Why is it bad? It names everything for you, it means no work for you. I think you could probebly disable it if you fiddled with the settings, and np happy to help :)

It is bad because I tagged about 120GB of mp3 file with Tag&Rename. But I cannot see any of these tags. Also, I cannot edit any details of the mp3 files. Details are just grayyed. And there is no information like title, year... about the mp3 files.

That's maybe because Tag&Rename doesn't fully adhere to the ID3v2 standard. It's possible that it also is using ID3v2.4, which is known to be prone to errors because of the poor implementations of the standard.

You best bet would be to use a program that makes use of ID3v2.3, which is fully supported by Vista.

If you don't mind using undocumented (no help files) software, I could post a link to my own "MP3 Media Properties Explorer" that I created to overcome just this particular type of problem because I never did find an MP3 tagging software tat worked the way I wanted.

Let me know, and I'll see about uploading it to my site, and I'll post a link...

EDIT:
Try telling Tag&Rename to use the ID3v2.3 standard instead. You may have more success that way.

I tried to tell Tag&Rename to use the ID3v2.3 standard but there is not any option like this. Options are like in the attachment. If you can post your software, I will appreciate.

It's okay, I'm more curious though to hear what other people think of it. I don't usually release my software to the public, hence the lack of help files. My programs are my own.

To be blunt, I am actually considering selling the source code of MP3 Media Properties Explorer...

Unfortunately your program did not help me.:( It is tagging the mp3 properties but I cannot see any of these details in my OS. I think that this is a registry problem because I cannot see .avi thumbnails also. From now on, I will not use a regisrty cleaner program anymore.

I will try this one also but the problem is not tagging. [Because Tag&Rename shows the tags already.] The problem is that I cannot see the tagged details in a folder. Also I cannot tag any of the mp3 files using Vista. I mean all details are grayyed when I right click and chooes details of an mp3 file. Until using Ccleaner, everything was normal, I was able to see and tag all mp3 details. But after using registry cleaner option of that program, this problem occured. Someone said me "this is because wmplayer is trying to tag mp3 files via internet" but I could not find accurate info about this.

Hello, I have the same problem: I can't see any details or tags of my MP3 and video files, and I have no more thumbnails with my videos.

Did someone find a solution to this problem?

Thanks

Hi Dams

May be totally unrelated but do you have write permissions to these files. Check the security settings in properties

Hi Barman58,

Yes I have all permission

Edit: I don't know if this detail can help, but when I try to modify the tags in the bottom of the explorer window, I have this error message (because I don't have access in properties -> details, so this is probably "normal" I think ^^)

"Error 0x80040154 : Class not registered"

If it had not been so long since you started having this problem i would suggest a sytem restore to before the reg cleaner incident.
will have a think and if i can find anything will post back. I can duplicate the "greyed out" effect by changing permissions. do you get UAC prompt when using your tagging application?

I have this problem for several weeks, and it is impossible to me to restore as everything worked. :(

I deactivated the UAC control months ago.
