"Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

First of all, I can't even create a password! When I go to Control Panel to set a password, I fill in my password and the hint. When I hit "Create Password", it says the same message no matter what.

Re: "Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

Hello TTG and welcome to Vista Forums.

This usually means that you already have a password set for that user account. You will need to type in the old password first in the Confirmation box to change it. If your not sure what it is, then Remove the password first in User Accounts, then create a new one.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

P.S.
I deleted your other duplicate post in case you wondered what happened to it.

Re: "Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

It doesn't say I have an old password. All it says in Control Panel is "Create a Password for your account." Under user accounts it doesnt have a link to remove a password. It doesnt have any boxes for old passwords and on my log-in screen it says no password. I have no clue what to do now. If you have any more info, please reply.

Re: "Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

Ok TTG,

You may have had a typo and not typed in the exact same new password again in the Confirm new password box. Try again to see if it work.

Re: "Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

i tried typing in 123456789 to make sure there is no typo. also, when i see my login screen, it says, "no password" and i got this computer today, so there shouldnt be a password anyway. There is no option to remove a password under user accounts and i am still stuck. I am so sorry about this. I cant figure it out.

Re: "Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

It's ok. Create another administrator account and see if you can create a password for it. If so, then you can delete the old account from within the new one.

Re: "Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

Your welcome TTG.

Just out of curiosity, was this an account that came presetup on a store bought computer, or one you setup during the installation of Vista?

Re: "Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

It was the administrator account that came with the computer. I didnt make ANY. Just changed the name, background, picture, etc.

Re: "Windows Cannot Change Your Password"

Thank you for the feedback TTG. I have been noticing that this happens usually when it was a presetup account like that. Not sure why yet though.
