| Newbie | Hello first time here. Hello I am going to college in a month or so and worked the summer away to purchase a laptop for school. The laptop I purchased comes preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit OS and according to what ive heard i might have a few problems with program and hardware compatibility. I have never used Vista before is there anything I should know before it comes in the mail in a few days? |

| Antidisestablishmentarian | Re: Hello first time here. Hi, Fersnachi, and welcome to the forums. Program compatibility - only if you plan on playing old 16 bit DOS games or plan on using 16 bit applications. Otherwise, no, 32bit apps work fine in 64bit OSs. hardware compatibility - well, since it is a laptop, most of the hardware is already integrated, and if the manufacturer installed 64bit Vista then I'd suppose that they have already installed the correct / necessary drivers. Just be sure of one thing, more so for any other hardware that you buy than software - make sure it is ***specifically* Vista x64 compatible - not *just* 64bit compatible, because that can be referring to XP 64bit only - make sure the hardware ***says*** Vista 64bit compatible - and do ***not*** take the word of a salesman -research. The internet is *vast* you can find just about any answer you want. Use it. |

| IT Consultant | Re: Hello first time here. What kind of laptop is it? I haven't seen too many laptops that come shipped with x64. If they preinstalled it should shouldnt have any driver issues at all. I quick reference to their driver website should clear those thoughts right up. As for the programs in the OS, you are fine with it working in x64 and x86 mode. By the way welcome to the forums. |
