8GB RAM & Vista64 install

Hello -

I am about to install Vista64 home premium on a new build with 8 megs of RAM. The disk is Vista64 SP1. I was wondering if it is still recommended to install Vista64 with only 1 stick of RAM first prior to installing all 8 megs? Or because the disk has SP1, is this no longer an issue?

thanks for the help!

Re: 8megs RAM & Vista64 install

What I did, was I installed Vista 64, using 4 1GB DDR2 800 DIMMS on my board, without any trouble using my Vista 64 install DVD, and then when I got my 8GB's of ram consisting of matched 2GB DIMMS, I pulled out the four 1GB DIMMS, and installed the four 2GB DIMMS.

I would install Vista 64 with 2 or 4GB's to be on the safe side, as I've never installed with 8GB's onboard before, and then after Vista 64 is installed, then put the rest of the memory in.

Re: 8megs RAM & Vista64 install

From my experience, i have seen a few BSOD errors with 8 gb of ram installed. But yet i have not installed it with SP1 slipstreamed. I would just stick to 2 or 4 to be safe, it will only take an extra few minutes :)

Re: 8megs RAM & Vista64 install

8 megs of RAM.
all 8 megs?
Might wanna consider Windows 3.1. 8)

Ignoring the *three* references to megs (title too!), I installed Vista Business x64 SP1 on my new rig with 8GB RAM and it had no issues.

Before SP1, the 4GB install problem was limited to certain configurations. It wasn't like no system at all with 4GB could have Vista x64 installed on it.

Re: 8megs RAM & Vista64 install

should be fine with 8GB ram installed....my x64 vista reinstalled with a glitch. Just make sure your motherboard supports the 8gb.

i think the bsod is only apparent if its the original vista DVD without service pack 1 pre-installed, anyone confirm this?
