Anyone with actual experience; custom ICC & Vista 64 & UAC?

Hi, I have a hard time trying to figure out exactly how well the color calibrated environment in Vista work. I want to buy a colorimeter like Spyder 3 and use a custom ICC profile, but fear that the UAC will cause an issue discarding the ICC profile when the screen dims. It appear to me that here might be a gamma LUT issue with Vista.

Windows Vista's Gamma Table Bug — The NeoSmart Files

If any of you use a custom ICC file for color correcting with the following setup, I would appreciate some feedback if there is or is not a gamma LUT issue with an updated Windows Vista.

- Vista 32 or Vista 64
- UAC enabled !
- Desktop !
- Single screen setup !
- Preferably with a newer AMD/ATI card like 3870
- Newer Catalyst driver !

I only wish for feedback from people who know what they are talking about, Im tired of trying to find an answer on the internet, and emails have given me no clear answer to my concerns.

MS page, perhaps relevant but it seems the issue is for dual screen setups:

Hi Decoman,

Trial Spyder3 with your ICC profile settings...

Its the best way to see if the issues have been resolved, I turn off the screen-dim (secure Desktop) settings of UAC via "local security settings" so Im not sure if that issue has been resolved.

The very latest Spyder3 version can be found here and is the best way to check to see if its been resolved....

I believe I managed to create and save an ICC profile possibly with a distinct bluish tint using that beta you linked.

However, I cannot figure out how to associate this ICC profile with my display to test it. It seems that this profile I saved is locked to a printer "class" and Vista's color management window won't allow me to try it out for my display.

When i try to "add" the ICC profile to my display from the "Devices" tab I get an error:

"Windows failed to associate the profile 'bluetest.icm' with the device 'Device: Generic Non-PnP Monitor - Ati Radeon HD 3870'. The printer name is invalid."

I'll look for some other way to create an ICC for the display. I guess it should be easy to test this when I manage to create a suitable profile.
