VIST x64

Good day everyone. I installed x64 on my new system 3 days ago. I worked to get every peripheral running. I got stuck at one of my printers an HP 2600n. I downloaded the latest drivers from HP. When I installed I received an error message 0x00000c1. I looked it up and microsoft suggested I upgrade to the latest service pack. I downloaded and installed service pack 1 for x64 and everything seemed to be fine. I rebooted late last night and I received an error. My system went to start windows, would get to about 5 seconds into it and then a blue screen would flash and the system would just reboot. I tried everything to get it to reboot and it would not. So I wiped out my machine to reload. Now here is my problem: My system loads the files to install windows x64, the just sits there. The hdd activity light is going crazy but it simply won't get past the scrolling progression bar. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Update: I unplugged my rig from the wall for 10 minutes. It is loading up fine. I am not sure what that was all about. Anyone have any idea?

Well there can be many reasons but I might have a few to give you. First of all when you format "wipe" "clean" your hard drive, sometimes if it isn't formatted properly your hard drive is left excessively fragmented. And no I am not talking about file fragmentation because obviously there aren't any , but I am talking about memory chunks, globs, spaces, the end of the universe, and the big bang. Your hard drive is not spaced out properly so when you are installing Vista the hard drive is working over time to unpack all the files into the right places. Some of these places could be at the outer edge or the exact opposite of the hard drive platter. So your hard drive's spindle is going here and there and back again like crazy. This can slow up the process dramatically depending on hard drive speed etc. You also have to think that Vista is really big and requires a lot of information to be processed during installation. I bet if you let the previous vista installation continue it would have eventually finished. And I know what you mean by installing it the second time is much faster and less hard drive thrashing. I don't know this is. But maybe you and I can speculate on different things eh?
