Vista Rebuild turns out well except for 1 thing

 Ok here's a good one.....

Had trouble with a twitchy computer running vista 32 home premium.

I have a toshiba a205-s4577 with duo 1.73 ghz processors and 2 gig of ram.

Thought I'd rebuild from scratch so I loaded the OEM DVD's and off I went....all loaded fine....removed the "bloatware" down to basic OS. Runs fast....loaded my spyware/ antivirus/turned on firewall, defender and down loaded all patches /services packs to bring me back up to date....worked perfectly. All is good.

So I have a linksyswrt350n with USB storage MyBook 500g drive....my wifes Vista (same build as mine, identical machines...she can map to her share and see the drive.

When I go to map a drive to an existing share I get an error saying incorrect password/user name. I know it's the correct share name, user name and password because I have deleted and re created the share just in case I messed up the password.

I can log into the router see the drive there I just can't map a drive for nothing....
I compared the network setting and they are all set identical in the network sharing center...

I am stumped and pissed that puter works 100% better, peppy and clean load, but can't map a stupid drive for nothing...

Any ideas, registry issues....what ?!?!?

Look in properties advanced sharing. Mayby there is something you are missing.

Creat a new user name and password on your computer that is the same as the one your wife uses on her system. See if that works.

Well good news -

From the laptop I was having trouble with, I logged onto the web interface of the linksys router. Dropped and recreated an account for the storage.

Logged out of the linksys and mapped a network drive from the MyComputer
and clicked on "Logged on with different user" <return>

Was prompted for a user name and password and put in what I had just installed in the routern and voila IT WORKED !!!

Create a shortcut on my desktop and back to kick-n-ass!!

Not excactly sure what the heck was the problem....that was my last task to my rebuild.

So far so good.....

Thanks
