Windows Memory Detection

See This It Showing I Have Total 5992 MB of Memory In System 571 MB Used.

But,

In System I Have 2 GB Memory Means 2 x 1024 = 2048 MB Memory

And,

4 GB Virtual Memory Means 4 x 1024 = 4096 MB Memory

Total,

2048 + 4096 = 6144 MB

But It Showing 5992 MB Means 152 MB Less. Where Is This Memory Is It In Kernel Or Else Where. Can Anyone Tell Me?

Re: Windows Memory Detection

You have 2.00 Gigabytes of RAM. Thas how windows XP SP-3 is reprting your RAM, as in the amount.

You have 2x1024(AKA 1.00 Gigabyte) chips.

Your system is set to have a maximum of 4096 kb of virtual memory to use with it.

Virtual memory is a portion of your hard drive, that has been set aside to use "like" RAM.

Your RAM chips are anything but perfect. You system is posting varios totals that arent exactly alike. Nothing new.

If your wondering how much exactly you have RAM wise, you have 2GB, 2048megs.

You have 4 gigs of your hard drive set aside to use like RAM.

Hope thats what you wanted to know.

Re: Windows Memory Detection

First off, maybe you would like to change your tone. Someone has taken the time to answer your question as best he knows how. He thinks he's answering the question you asked, and all you can give him is attitude. At least, that's how it comes across to me.

Second, 152 mb difference is a big amount. It's not the same amount as the kernel seems to be when you add them up, cos that's either around 141 or 171 if you add the non-paged part. However, if I look at my own memory, it says I have a total of 4094 MB, which is strange, as it should be 4 GB, or 4096MB. Whether that's a bug in windows, or whether it means that the system is actually taking a part of the mem for something else I cannot honestly tell you.

There is, however, another possibility, which you might want to check out if you are a bit paranoid, and that's that your RAM might not be completely ok anymore. You can run some mem stresstests on it overnight to check whether it's the ram or not.

Oh, btw, what's up with starting every word with a capital letter?

Re: Windows Memory Detection

Jeet, does that little area you have circled say Total Memory or Total RAM? No, it says Total COMMIT - so you should really look up the term before assuming what you might think it is.

WikiAnswers - What is the meaning of 'Commit Charge' which is displayed on the 'Performance' tab of the Windows Task Manager

Re: Windows Memory Detection

What bug do you think your looking at?

Do you think that your RAM has a bug, or you Virtual memory?

Or that windows dosent just automaticly add them together? They are two different things alltogether. The fact thay exsist dosent mean that its a bug.

BTW, your text is'nt a style. It's a condition.
