Can't see thumbnails

I encounterred an awkward problem...
i can't see thumbnails in my folder

i've tried disk cleanup many times.
and I am sure the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is turned off.

here is the odd part:
when i open a new folder, i can see the thumbnails for about 5-8 seconds, and then the thumbnails disappeared one after another.
if i press F5 to refresh, those thumbnails will appear, and 5 secs later turn into icons again.

what should i do?

Re: Can't see thumbnails

Hello Cnalbert, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Double check with this tutorial to make sure that thumbnails are enabled for Windows Explorer. It will show you a few methods to try.

Thumbnails in Windows Explorer

If it is, then double check to make sure that Windows Photo Gallery has all of it's default associations set to it. This tutorial will show you how to if needed.

Default Programs - Program Default Associations

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Can't see thumbnails

Cnalbert,

If this has just recently happened, then you can do a System Restore using a restore point dated before the problem. This will show you how to if needed.

System Restore - How to

Have you installed or changed anything that you remember before this happend?

thanks! but...
because there is no enough space on c:, i turned off system restore ToT
(only 4.5MB available before i did the things below)

3 days ago, i ran disk cleanup and then permantely deleted all files on c:\users\*myusername*\appdata\local\temp

afterwards it happened...

Re: Can't see thumbnails

Cnalbert,

See if rebuilding the icon cache can help. This will show you how to if needed.

Icon Cache - Rebuild

If not, then run a sfc /scannow command to see if it can find and fix any bad system files.

System Files - SFC Command

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Can't see thumbnails

Cnalbert,

I must admit that I am at a loss as to why the thumbnails will not stay displayed for you.

Sorry,
Shawn

Re: Can't see thumbnails

That might not be a bad idea - this may be symptomatic of a larger problem....
