Solved No Thumbnail preview for any files or folders

Hi All,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. However,
I am having exactly the same problem as http://www.vistax64.com/vista-music...m-computer-not-generating-them-something.html - I have done all the things list here and I still cannot see any preview icons for any files or folders. Unless I use the list view which doesnt show previews anyway for picture or movie files.

I have done a repair of Vista and that didnt fix the problem. I really dont want to start from scratch.

I also cannot change my desktop image, and any file I try to upload wont change it.

If you can help me I would very much appreciate it. If you need screenshots or anything like that I can do.

Thank you!

Hi, dunkywunky87, and welcome to the forums.

Would you be so kind as to post screen shots? They don't have to be full screen, just small rectangles showing what you mean....

Yep, and I tried all the steps as well.

Very depressing. But thank you for your help. If you have any crazy Ideas please suggest them. Keen to try anything once ;)

Well, welcome to the Vista Forums!

I looked at the other post and didn't see this (it may have been in one of the links within the post). But I thought I'd throw it out there for you anyway:

You can enable or disable the thumbnail icon feature for image files.

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Open Folder Options.
3. Select View.
4. Uncheck the box for Always show icons, never thumbnails to enable thumbnail icons. Check the box to disable thumbnail icons.

Let us know if that helps.

Hi TN,

Your system files and registry have been heavily corrupted, you either need to use System Restore back before this problem started or reinstall over your current installation to solve these errors as they are just going to get worse :(

I have just made the transition from XP to Vista and had the same problem with viewing thumbnails. Thanks Joe your advise worked on my machine, I can't understand why Vista did not have this as the default.
