Picture viewing problem

Hi everyone,

I got another problem in my PC. I have saved about 3000 photos in my computer under a folder called photos. But since some weeks, my computer is changing the original look of my pictures to very ugly views. I meant sometimes when I open my photo folders, suddenly some pictures are getting discoloured automatically. Sometimes the pictures are cutting to two pieces automatically. If the picture's background is green, sometimes it is changing to red, yellow or some other colour.
But after this happened, I cannot get them back to it's original view at all. I don't know what's happening here. Already I have lost lot of my important photos because of this, and I even haven't saved them somewhere else. I already have deleted them from my camera too. So please help me before this computer eats all of my photos.

Since I bought this computer, I am getting lot of problems in this. I don't know if it is because of VISTA or any other Hardware problem on this computer.

First and foremost - email a picture to someone else and let them look at it - if it looks normal it is just your computer.

If it is the same on their computer, then something on your computer has gone and altered the pictures - and that could just as easily be software like Picasa or other image editor that has applied settings to all files in the folder.

Now, here is a lesson learned.

1) Don't store thousands of things in one folder
2) Backup.

Thanks a lot for your help!
I sent one of those damaged photos to someone and check as you told, but it was same as it is in my pc. I don't have Picasa or any other software installed in my pc. I have almost all softwares I got with the OS. Only few softwares like MS Office, PPStream, etc, I have installed sofar. But I have some images sent by some of my friends and they have sent them through Picasa programme. But I only have saved those photos tomy pc.

So which software we are getting with Vista Home Premium, which can cause such a problem?
Can it be my virus guard( I have Norton Anti Virus)?

Please help me to protect my precious images and I appreciate anybody's help!

Hello everybody!

No, I don't have any image manipulation software. I don't have Picasa software too. In my PHOTOS folder I have many other sub folders and I have saved images in those sub folders. When I open any of those sub folders, some of the photos are getting suddenly corrupted. Today also I opened one of my sub folder which has many photos, but when I opened, the photos were normal and after few seconds suddenly some photos got damaged.

If there is any malware or some other software affect for this, Does anybody know how to find that? I can delete it totally from my computer. I did full system scan many times but my Norton Anti-Virus application couldn't detect anything.

Looking forward for a quick solution!

Try running a few online scanners as well - they will take some time, but depending upon who you ask, Symantec consumer products range from OK to mediocre to downright bad.

Also, you might check your monitor profile, although if you are sending the pictures physically to someone else and they see the same thing it seems to me that the image is being physically changed.

Heck, paste one or two (PG rated) images here and we can have a lot more people compare to see if we all see the same thing....
