General Advice - ***Please read before posting***

When posting a query about something not working correctly in Vista, please remember to enclose as much detail about your system as possible, even if it doesn't seem relevant. This includes any USB/Firewall devices whether they be external or internal. A lot of problems can be remedied by going to the hardware manufacturer and installing an update for a problematic device. If your system was working correctly before you installed an application or update, then please state which. Finally, if you are not sure where to post your query, please post it in the 'General Discussion' area of the forums. The Administrators/Moderators will move it to a more suitable area if necessary.

When posting, DO NOT give your topic a title of:
  • - HELP ME PLEASE!
    - I NEED HELP!
    - I have a question.
    - BIG problem!
    - NOOB needs help!
    - Problems
    - URGENT!
    - HELP ME PLEASE.
OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!!!

BE SPECIFIC in choosing a title for your post. It can help us better help you.

Give the people helping you total respect. They help you for FREE!

This is an ENGLISH only Forum. You can find online translators on the web to translate your message for you.

Help us help you. When you post, post as much information as you can.
  • - Your Setup i.e. CPU, motherboard, graphics card, memory
    - Your version of Vista and if it's 32 or 64 bit
    - Your specific problem
    - Be as detailed as possible
Please - can EVERYONE fill in as much detail as possible in the 'System Specs' section of their 'User CP'. If you change your forum skin to one of the v2 versions, you will see that the poster information panel adjacent to the posts has changed. One of the changes is the 'My System Specs' tab at the foot of the panel, and, if this information is filled in as requested (and kept upto date), it would help us a great deal. If you expand mine at the foot of this post, you will see the type of information required. This tab (and other poster information) is only available if you are logged in.

Agreed - remember that we are not able to look at your computer physically and perform any diagnostics at all. If you want us to help, not only are you going to have to be specific (IOW, you can't just say you get a Blue screen or a BSOD, you have to specify the error you receive in detail) so we can start targeted troubleshooting steps.

If you happen to talk to a mechanic and mention that it makes a rattling sound, or seems to try to shut off when making left turns, most mechanics will say the same thing - "Bring it in and let me take a look at it." We don't have that option here, so we need you to be our eyes and ears.

AGREED!!

we can save 4 or 5 posts by already having your specs ....
& even more by completely explaining your problem in the first post.

also screen shots are our friends... it allows us to look at exactly what you look at & vista is perfectly equipped for this via its ''snipping tool''

How to use the Snipping Tool in Vista

Hello all!

It would be very useful to have your system specifications, if you're not sure
where they're listed, Vista forums has this wonderful new tool to help you find them!

Click on the link below, save the tool to the desktop and click on the shortcut.

VistaForums SysInfo Tool

Provide credentials for the UAC prompt. At the bottom of the left pane click "Select All".
Then click on the windows orb to run the tool.
When the tool shows "Done" click on "Copy to Clipboard" then post the results
at your thread using r. click/paste, and it will automatically list as [/code] to
be easily viewed by anyone wishing to assist you.

Thanks to all.
