Re: core i7 compatible with mobo?

All new socket; all new chipset. It's going to use DDR3. They're also doing something very different with respect to memory. Instead of two channels, there are 3.

Re: core i7 compatible with mobo?

Either four or eight cores. Until the chip is readily available for testing, motherboard makers produce solid boards and memory manufacturers start making triple-channel kits, nobody can say with certainty exactly how it will perform, but from what little we've seen so far, it's going to crush current gen cpus.

Re: core i7 compatible with mobo?

The chips are going to be released at the end of the year... not exactly definitive, so I wouldn't hold my breath. It would be wise to also wait for a few chipsets to be released so you can compare them.

Of course, all this flashy new hardware is going to cost an insane amount of money, so unless you've got an employer willing to foot the bill because all that cpu strength fills a need, then I'd wait until prices are palatable. It would not be smart to jump on this if your primary task is gaming.

No, see the quotation above your quotation - all new chipset, all new socket - I think that in and of itself says there are not going ot be any i& boards out *yet*.
